MJUMBE ART GALORE (MAG)

My name is Lawrence Mjumbe Kinyua. I was born in 1996 in Meru county Kenya, where I spent the first 10 years of my life before  my family decided to move to Nairobi in 2006.

I finished my primary education and enrolled in Pumwani Boys High School. Creativity runs in my family, and so an art teacher there noticed my talent and enrolled me in her art class. She taught me the basics and by the time I finished form four I was pretty comfortable with my creations.

I joined Kenyatta university and studied Fine Art for one year, but unfortunately had to drop out due to lack of funds. So I joined a Masaai market club, where I displayed my art for the first time in Nairobi TRM Mall in 2017. I also showcased my art at Railways Gallery for a while, but got tired of waiting around to eventually find some clients who were interested in my work. So I took a shot in the tattoo industry for a short period of time, which also didn’t satisfy me. Eventually I moved to Diani and opened my own studio where I have been working since beginning of 2022, now showcasing my work also in Diani Art Club.
